Hollywood. And while other studios smiled enticingly in his direction, RKO asked him to find a picture picture for a talented young French actress, Michele Morgan, unknown in America and who had only recently learned to speak English. Studied Subject Dave studied Miss Morgan much as he would a story idea. He took her to dinner, to the circus, to the movies vand to parties and watched her. When Georges Kessols, a young French journalist just escaped from France, told him his story, Dave ' knew he had what he wanted. The result was ".loan of Paris." the story of a French barmaid who falls In love with an R A F flier shot down near Paris, hides him then gives her life In helping helping him escape back to England to fight again. Hempstcad gambled gambled on two almost unknown people as stars of a picture in which RKO was investing three-quarters of a million dollars, dollars, and won. The film has proved a smash hit.
