Okla. 74571 needs assistance with her Coleman Ancestry. Her ancestor James Coleman was a Revolutionary soldier from South Carolina, was a Baptist Minister and lived on Lynches Creek. He died in 1814. His wife was Rachel Cobb (or Kobb). Mrs. Kudwell is a member of the DAR through this one James Coleman, Their daughter was Kalherine and second wife of James King, who is buried near Darlington, South Carolina. Later Katherine Coleman King along with her four children removed to Conecuh County, Ala., then on to El Dorado. Union County, Ark., where many descendants still live. It is said the Coleman family is of Palatine descent. W. H. Shattuck, Route 5, Box 5, Gilmer, Texas is my brother- in-law, do you know him? Mrs. Kudwell, my ancestor was James Coleman, born 1800 in Georgia, died 1840 Coneuch County, Ala., married ! about 1828 Mary Ann Thames, daughter of Cornelius Thames and Susannah Carver Thames. After the death of James Coleman, Mary was married to Benjamin Coleman, brothe of James. By 1854 they moved into Rapides Parish, La. where they raised their family. Benjamin and Mary Colemai are buried in Holslon Cemetery in Grant Parish, La., and their graves are not marked. We may well have a common ancestor—Mrs. Joel Smith. Mrs. R. O. Brown, 1625 E. Missouri, Dallas 75216, is interested in any data about her grandfather, Samuel Edwin Buchanan, who usually signed his name as S. E. Buchanan.
