PHILLIPS Herald Staff Writer Three local residents were accorded special honor in dedication ceremonies Tuesday on the Anderson College campus. T r i b u t e s were paid to Dr. Adam Miller and his wife Grace at the formal d e d i c a t i o n ceremonies of the Miller Chapel, creeled last winter to adjoin the School of Theology buildinfi THE MINISTRY of the Millers spans more l h a n three score years and i n c l u d e s p a s t o r a l a n d m i s s i o n a r y service, administrative leadership with the mission board of the Church of God and also with Anderson College. Dr. M i l l e r chaired Ihe study on seminary education which led to the establishment of Anderson School of Theology and as dean, he guided its growth from 1353 to 1962. M r s . M i l l e r e x p r e s s e d h e r a p p r e c i a t i o n of the s i m p l i c i t y and beauty of the new chapel and noted a w e d d i n g had been one of its first services. v "MY HEART is full." Dr. Miller told ( h e a u d i e n c e w h i c h i n c l u d e d a m u l t i t u d e of his former students. The graduate a l u m n i men's choir sang for the dedication service. The audience then moved on to the south entrance of the newly renovated R y r u m H a l l , named for six members of a f a m i l y w h i c h m a d e m a j o i ADAM W. MILLER . . . . . . B y r u m . whose home formerly occupied the site of the Wilson Library, and his brother. Noah Byrum. who had lived at the corner of Kifth and C o l l e g e Drive, had come to Anderson in 1906 as executive officers in the Gospel Trumpet Publishing plant, now Warner Press. Inc. as editor of Ihe j o u r n a l , the "Gospel Trumpet." the influence of K. E. Byrum was fell across the l a n d in of Church of God homes, R O B E R T B Y R U M , a brother of Enoch and Noah, was architect and ' b u i l d e r of the structure which now bears the f a m i l y name. He had erected "Old M a i n . " predecessor of Decker H a l l , and also a number of other buildings. A s s i s t i n g in the c o n s t r u c t i o n of Byrum Hall, was a young man of 20. R u s s e l l K . B y r u m , A n d e r s o n ' s well known contractor and developer. Mis other service to the Church of God includes work as a writer, a pastor and a teacher. He is a former managing editor of the Gospel Trumpet Company. HP was ;i member of Ihe first faculty of Anderson Bible Training School, now A n d e r s o n College. H i s t e x t b o o k . "Christian Theology." is still in use. Bessie Millie B y r u m . wife of Russell Byrum, was early associated with Ihe Gospel Trumpet plant here. Then she served as a missionary to Syria before (he Firsl AVorld War. Like her husband. she was also a member of the first faculty of Ihe Anderson Bible Training S c h o o l . P e r h a p s h e r g r e a l e s t c o n t r i b u t i o n was in Ihe field of C h r i s t i a n e d u c a t i o n . S h e was r e c o g n i z e d us one of Ihe most significant and innovative adult church school leacherx in (he history of (he- Park Place Church of Gixl. RL'THVE.V HOLMES BYRUM, son of Noah B y r u m . was the founder and c h a i r m a n of the Art Department of Anderson College and his landscapes h a v e become known throughoul the Midwest. O f t h e s i x B y r u m s b e i n g memorialized by naming the renovated structure in their honor, only Russell HONORED SENIOR MINISTERS Byrum survives. Portraits of (he six By r u m s will grace the walls of the building. The Hall was erected in 1!)08 and s e r v e d a s t h e f i r s t p e r m a n e n t t a b e r n a c l e f o r (he a n n u a l c a m p meeting of the movement. 11 was later i i d a j i t e d to serve as a g y m . an a u d i t o r i u m for drama presentations, finally a convocation hull for Anderson College students. ... This tribute was g i v e n by Dr. Robert Smith, present instructor in drama who had been a student under Dr. Grossman. President Robert Heardon staled that a p p l i c a t i o n has been made to H y r u m Hall set aside as a national monument.
