Explorers Bound for Canoe Trip Ten Venturers and two advisors advisors are adventure-bound for the lake country of northern Minnesota. The 18-day 3900-mile journey will be highlighted by a 10-day canoe trip out of the National Explorer Base at Ely, Minn. The young men, all members of the - Provo 21st Ward, will paddle and portage nearly 100 miles in the wilderness area. En route they will visit a number of interesting points including an overnight at Nauvoo, 111. and Carthage, Mo. important spots in LDS Church history. They will travel up the Mississippi River, America's great mid-continent waterway. They will return home in early July by way of the Black Hills of South Dakota. They will also visit Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone National Park. The two leaders are Leon Rowley and Bill Ewell. Ven- turers include Post President Kent Barrus, Tom Rowley, Brad Burningham, Kurt Gunther, Kelly Ewell, Lynn Robison, Mark Christopherson, Russell Smith, Dwight Cotton, and Brent Jensen. Funds were raised through various enterprises, most important important of which was a power rake program in the spring.
