on by 60c a NEGRO LEGISLATOR LEFT WITHOUT G. O. P. SEATMATE The negro member of the Legislature, Walter Hall Moore, has been given a wide berth by his Republican seat mate, Representative A. F. Hilker, of Barry county, who has availed himself of the opportunity to change seats because of the extra seats in the House. Representative Hilker made the move Tuesday when he went from seat No. 85 to No. 123 leaving Moore with two seats for his use. It has been known since the session convened that Hilker, who comes from Barry county which boasts of not having a negro resident within its limits, had been displeased with his seat mate. Hilker has made no statement giving his reason for making the change but it is the concensus of opinion that he is endeavoring to make his escape from having the man of color for his seat mate. The new seat taken by Hilker is not nearly so desirable as the one which adjoins Moore's.—State Journal.
