Sister Viola Portz Dies At Convent Sister Viola Portz, 78, died this morning at Mount St Scholastica Convent after a brief illness. She had been a Benedictine Sister for 54 years and had retired from teaching four years ago. Born in Kansas City, Kas., March 4,1894, Rose Anne Portz was the daughter of John and Margaret Dulle Portz. She entered Mount St. Scholastica Convent, Feb. 16,1918, and was professed Aug. 15,1919, making perpetual vows three years later. An elementary school teacher for almost 50years, Sister Viola taught in Maryville, Brookfield, Monroe City, and Guardian School in Kansas City, in Baileyville, Axtell, Seneca, Kelly, Shawnee, and Seneca; in Creston, Ports- mouth, Defiance, and Panama, la.; in Steinauer and Omaha, Neb.; and in Antonito and San Colo. Her last teaching position was at Horton in 1968 " Sister Viola earned hw years 01 summer scnooi study. Sister Viola is survived by two brothers, Lawrence Portz, -- - - and Leo bachelor's degree at Mount St. Scholastica college in 1941 with a major in English after many years of summer school study. Kansas City, Kas.; Long Beach, Calif.; and by one sister, Mrs. Clara Saale, Kansas City, Kas. A cousin, Sister Mary Ann Wirtz, now teaching at Donnelly College in Kansas City, is a member of the Atchison Sisters. One of Sister Viola's sisters, Sister Margaret Mary Portz, also an Atchison Benedictine, died on Dec. 8, 1942. Vigil services for Sister Viola will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m., at Mount St. Scholastica Convent, with the Mass of Resurrection Thursday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the con- vent cemetery with the Harouff-
