L. Altmiller in Talt is doing very well. In 1942 the tree produced only 250 nuts, in 1943 it had 550 nuts, but this year it has 700 nuts on it, showing that pecan trees thrive in Taft. Altmiller advises any interested persons desiring to try their hand at raising pecan trees in this area to get a grafted tree from a nursery, nursery, for in raising it from a seed the grower can never be certain as to whether it will bear a hard or a soft shelled nut. W. C. Rathbone, who has a pecan tree near his home on the Standarc Carnp one quarter of a mile east of Fellows, reports the tree produced produced 40 pounds of nuts this year, which was less than last year's yield.
