GWL 1938 - General George Warburton Lewis and his wife,...
General George Warburton Lewis and his wife, Soraida, are back in Manhattan, after a year In Arkan - lor the General's health and ins. Tho General's title and occasional bad health come from - long service with dark - skinned armies in the tropics. I'm told he's written his biography, and I hope - it's true. He once promised I should write the forward if ever ne did the story of his life. In one of his central American wars he captured the daughter of ths Minister of War of Nicaragua or some such country. She's a little little Spanish beauty, and sings Spanish Spanish songs so charmingly that the General hardly finds time to write about his many battles, Lewis was born in Kansas. I first met him in Porto Rico. There he headed the Insular Police, a military body that's done much to fce?p that island happy and - peaceful. xne oenerai is six rees six, mm s a rail, nast 57. and can stand on his head or skin a cat with, any high school boy. The noise of traffic in New York drives him nearly crazy. He finds a sunny spot i in Arkansas or Kansas ana re - : treats for a while from the clatter. His last major assignment was in Liberia, where he trained the native army. Some of these rangy - country boys get around and get things done!
