HUDSON TB FETPinENGEIl -Flying Sergeant Home For First Leave in 2 Years Special to The Telegram HUDSON, Nov. U—Hudson was in patriotic attire yesterday, with flags placed along the streets and the merchants' windows trimmed with flags, bunting and streamers and bearing welcome signs for the soldiers home on furloughs. At 10 a. m, a large crowd of townspeople led by Mayor Fred Stewart and the high school band met Sgt and Mrs. Donald Fitten- ger as they entered the city and conducted them down Main Street Classes at the public schools were dismissed and business was at a standstill as the crowd lined Main Street welcoming Sgt. Pittenger on his return from overseas on the first furlough he has had since he entered the armed forces in September, September, 1941. Word came recently from Allied headquarters in the Southwest Pacific Pacific that Sgt Pittenger was listed among the ranking air gunners of bomber crews of the United States Fifth Air Force. An official report report announced at headquarters credited Pittenger with sharing in the destruction of 13 Japanese aircraft aircraft Unless he is granted an extension of time he is to report for .duty at Salt Lake City November 17. • A community "reception will be held at 8 /o'clock this evening -at the high school honoring all men and women from Hudson Who are in'the services. Woman's Club Meets The Hudson Woman's club met Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Frank Ames. With-Miss Ella Moloney as ; program "leader. Miss 'Dora Hart gave an interesting review review and discussion of "Prefaces to Peace," a symposium of "One World," by Wendell L. Willkie, "The Problems of Lasting Peace," by Herbert Hoover and Hugh Gibson, Gibson, "The Price of Free World Victory," Victory," by Henry A. Wallace and "Blueprint for Peace,""by Sumner Welles. Mrs. Frank Crippen's ninety- third birthday anniversary occurred Tuesday and the club presented her with a birthday cake at noon. Mrs. Crippen is the only living charter member of the club.
