Walsh did the expected yesterday when he withdrew from the race for the Democratic nomination for prothonotary, which he entered Tuesday afternoon after the bosses had slated Attorney Fred A. Hughes, Dickson City controller, for the Job. By quitting the race, Mr. Walsh leaves the field to Mr. Hughes and i. S. White, who has also filed for the Republican nomination. The withdrawal withdrawal of Mr. Walsh occasioned no surprise among politicians In the city, who were well aware that he entered the race at the eleventh hour merely to aid the slate makers in keeping the field clear for Mr. Hughes. Charles H. O'Boyle, of North Scran ton, who like Mr. Walsh filed on the last day, Is expected to follow the attorney's lead and get out of the fight for recorder of deeds, thus leaving the field to Jacob Hartman, of South Scranton. No one in political circles believed for a minute that either Mr. Walsh or Mr. O'Boyle was a bona fide candidate. candidate. They entered the race, accord ing to the best Information available, merely to throw out the Impression that there was serious opposition to the slated candidates. By so doing the bosses believe they staved off Independent Independent opposition to the hand - picked candidates of a few self - constituted constituted constituted leaders of local Democracy.
