Filipino Midgets are Smaller Than the Famed Tom Thumb. Do you want to see real people hardly as big as your little girl's doll? Then go to see the Filipino Midgets at the carnival. They are smaller than the famed Tom Thumb. Senor Juan de la Cruz and Senorita Martina de la Cruz, for these are their names, were sent to the Louisiana Purchase Exposition at St. Louis in 1904 by President Taft, who was then Governor General of the Philippine Islands, in English their names would be John and Tina. It is an interesting sight to see them sitting on chairs about the of a saucepan, Juan with a cigar in bis hand, and hear them aoster questions put to them with the twang of their native tongue. They apeak in three Philippine dialects in addition to Spanish and English. Tina is the elder, being 3 i > years Q( age while her brother is 32. She 21 inches tali and weighs 21 pounds. John is 24 inches in height and weighs 30.
