j A large number of friends and relatives relatives gathered at the home of D. 0 Shaffer near this city, Nov. 9. 1904 in honor of Mrs. Sheaffer's 45th birthday and were successful in .their undertaking undertaking by surprising her. Mrs. Shaffer and daughter Pearle were busy about j their household duties when the guests began to arrive. There were 42 in all that partook of the excellent dinner! which had been prepared by the friends and relatives. We think all that- were j present will never forget that birthday party- The way the chicken and good j things disappeared was plain to be seen .that there 'was more than one had a j , ! good appetite. I .Mrs. Shaffer received quite a number j of nice and useful presents, among them 1 a fine Rocking chair which was present- i ed to her as a token of friendship. There was some excellent-instrumental " and lots' of fun. All music, singing; enjoyed themselves from the oldest to the 'youngest. Late in the day the guests departed for .their respective homes leaving good cheer and many wishes to onr host and hostess. We all hope Mrs. Shaffer may''live to enjoy many more such, birthdays.—A guest.
