McGEE GETS A LIFE TERM. Sentenced after Conviction In McElroy Kidnaping; Case. Kansas City, Nov. 6 (ff)— George McGee, 21, is under a life sentence following his conviction on a charge of participation in the $30.000 kid- naping last May of Miss Mary McElroy, a crime for «.-hicii his older brother. Walter, now is under a death sentence. The verdict, returned by » criminal court jury Saturday night was regarded by Mrs. Alberta Brewer, a sister of the brothers, as a "strong talking point," in'efforts to obtain a commutation of Walter McGee's death sentence. At one time during its three hours of deliberation the jury was reported unofficially as standing 11 to 1 for the death sentence. A penalty the state had asked. McGee testified he was not Implicated in the abduction of the 21- year-old daughter of H. F. .McElroy, city manager. Previously he had been identified ¡is one of the kidnapers by Miss McElroy, her father who paid the ransom money shortly before the victim's release, and Miss Lucille Cates, divorced wife of Walter McGee. Defense attorneys were allowed 10 days in which to file a motion for a new trial.
