Robert Olson Sentencing
Sentencing Set Friday for Olson BELOIT (Special) — Robert Olson, 28, Route 3, Brodhead, was found guilty of negligent homicide by a jury in Municipal Court last night. Olson was charged with negligent homicide after his car hit another auto and rolled over several times on Highway 81, 5 miles west of Beloit. Fatally injured in the crash was Harry R. Croake Jr., 28, a passenger in Olson's car. The jury of 12 announced its decision at 12:02 a. m. today after going into session at 7 p. m. yesterday. Sentencing will be made Friday at 10 a. m. by Municipal Judge Arthur L. Luebke. The trial began yesterday following the selection of a County jury of seven men and five women. Louis Farmer, 35, Beloit, driver of a car struck by Olson's vehicle when Olson passed; Dr. K. L. Carter, Beloit, who examined Croake; police officer Howard G. Bjorklund and an ambulance attendant testified. Olson told officers he was driving about 60 miles an hour when he attempted to pass Farmer. He claimed that the Farmer car swung toward the middle of the road forcing him to drive on the shoulder. He lost control and hit another auto driven by Charles Kelley, 73, officers said. Occupants of the other cars were unhurt. Olson was represented by Attorney Marshall Robson and District Attorney Frank X. Kinast of Rock County prosecuted the case.
