Man guilty in sex attack By MARK BERGSTROM Sentinel staff writer SANTA CRUZ A jury convicted convicted a Boulder Creek man Friday of kidnapping and sexually assaulting assaulting a 20-year-old 20-year-old 20-year-old 20-year-old 20-year-old Santa Cruz woman last November. Larry Joe Percival, 30, could be sentenced to up to 77 years in prison, according to Chief Deputy District Attorney Jon Hopkins. Superior Court Judge Sam Stevens set sentencing for Oct. 13. The nine-man, nine-man, nine-man, three-woman three-woman three-woman jury deliberated for about three hours before returning guilty verdicts on all 10 charges, plus special allegations allegations that he used a knife in the commission of his crimes. The victim testified at the trial that she was attacked during a six-hour six-hour six-hour ride of terror after being picked picked up hitchhiking by Percival. The woman said she accepted the ride at Ocean Street and Highway 17. Detectives said the woman was driven around the San Francisco Bay Area and forced to perform a variety of sexual acts before beijig dumped out near Boulder Creek. Based on descriptions the woman gave, investigators developed Percival, Percival, an ex-con, ex-con, ex-con, as a suspect. An arrest warrant was issued after the victim positively identified Percival from a photo lineup. Percival was arrested in December December in Bend, Ore., where he was being held on suspicion of molesting molesting the 18-month 18-month 18-month old daughter of a couple who had befriended him in a bar. Hopkins said charges were not filed in that case because of inconclusive inconclusive medical evidence. Percival claimed he was visiting friends in Brookdale at the time of the attack.
