BURL REED GETS TWENTY \ \Burl Reed, former sheriff of Barry county, was convicted of robbing the Bank of.Exeter at Exeter, Mo., by a jury in circuit court at Cassville at 12:30 o'clock Sunday morning. j The case vtas given to _the jury at YEARS FOR BANK ROBBERY by 11:15 o'clock Saturday night. Reed was sentenced to serve twenty years in the state penitentiary by Judge Henson. An appeal was immediately taken and Reed made $20,000 bond under which he was released, pending the appeal. The sentence was five yeai's or more than was given Bob Amos, who was convicted Wednesday 6f complicity iirtKe same robbery.' Reed took the stand Saturday afternoon and endeavored to establish an alibi. He said on the day of the robbery he left Monett at 5:15 o'clock in the afternopn, in company with a traveling man, and arrived in Cassville at 7 o'clock that night. He could not,recall the traveling man's name ; but said he resided near Fayetteville. Ben Horine of Monett, salesman, had testified that he sold a cap, also found near the wrecked car, to Reed the day preceding the robbery. Reed on the stand produced a cap, which he said, was the one purchased in Monett. Horine was recalled anc testified that another cap, introduced as evidence, was the cap purchased by Reed. The latter was the cap found near the car. J. W. Hicks, Frisco engineer, Tom Rowley, Matt Thomas and Gus Shipley, all of Monett, gave testimony tending to show that Reed was ir Monett until 3:15 or 3:30 o'clock the day of the robbery.
