C Dr. Charlotte Hawkins Brown, noted educator, has recently returned from a triumphant visit to Haiti, where, ac companied by Mis Cede (R. Jenkins of Washington, D. C, she en joyed the hospitality of Madame Sangenls. Dr. Brown was honored with an Invitation to visit His Excellency, the President Dumarsala Estime, in his offices in the National Palace. Palace. It was wonderful wonderful to see stores, businesses of every kind, all managed by people ox coior. Due to illness. Dr. Brown 5 could not make .all the commitments asked of her. She iwas hailed trv citizens of the republic as one of America's first women of color In education, achievement and culture. In Haiti, as in the United States. the multitude of people are on a very low ecenomlo level, but those there are much farther behind than the average American Negro. The peasants seem scarcely removed from the aborigines. The women, as the neat burden bearers, trudge long miles on foot carrying theis wears to market.
