The October meeting of Van Oot.i Home Extension was held At the Jefferson county hous- ng recreation room. Hostesses were Gladys A. Hutson, Juanita Hester. Bernadine McNew and Pearl Veatch. There were 22 •"embers and three guests, Mrs. Wilma McLaughlin Harwell of Memphis, Tenn.. Mrs. Jewell Davis and Mrs. Lucille Atchison, presc'nt. Meeting was called to order by Chairman Delia Le Grand. The Lord's Prayer was given in unison. The secretary and treasurer's report was given by second vice president, Bernadine McNew, in the absence of the Secretary. Roll call by Bernadine McNew. A card of thanks read from Irene Quinn for a planter received while in the hospital. Two embroidered quilt blocks displayed, having been made by 4-H Chairman Patricia Douglas. Hattie Howard, chairman for the Christmas dinner, made plans for a covered dish, with the unit paying for the meat. A $1.00 gift exchange will be held. The major lesson—"Beliefs we live by" was presented by Yutha Floro. A poem "It all depends on you" was given by Yutha Floro. The minor lesson — "Wrapping Packages For Mailing" was presented by Gladys Hutson. Mrs. Hutson gave an interesting talk "An American Heritage." "Statue Of Liberty," and "The Lady With The Lamp." Fol'owing the business session, recreation was e'njoyed by all, with prizes being won JUNIOR VARSITY sophomore, daughter of Mr. of Mr. and Mrs. George Webb Second row, from left, Christine mondier; Pam Graddy, sophomore, daughter of Mr. by — Virginia Flanigan, Kyra Pace, Opal Dare, Wilma Harwell, Jewell Davis. Flossie Garrison, Freda Milliner and Pat Douglas. The tables were lovely with fall flowers, pumpkins, and autumn leavers. Refreshments of cake and punch were served. The November meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Roma Morgan's, co-hostess will be Dolly Bodine. County Agriculture Adviser Ron Cornwell will give the lesson "Heredity." Duplicate Club The Duplicate Club met Monday night, Oct. 13, -Atth four tables in play. Winters were: f»rst place, Mr. and Mrs. George Hill; second place.
