The lever which brought the 29-year- old heir to notority was a combination of remote farm house, pretty chorus girl, whisky and a pistol. At the Rogers farm in Pennsylvania's Westchester county blonde, comely Evelyn Hocy, night club singer, was a guest, had been for a week. She died of a bullet wound there,.in her bedroom. Rogers and another guest, William J. Kelly, freo lance cinema cameraman, were clamped into jail, held over night, released without charge under $2500 bail. Authorities leaned to the belief that the pretty entertainer had shot herself at the end of a quarrel with the rich young man. As near as investigators could determine. Miss Hoey and Rogers, who had been drinking heavily, quarreled because the entertainer had decided to return to New York. She went to her bedroom, killed herself. When others arrived at the farmhouse, Rogers was. reported as drunk, scarcely able to stand alone.
