The Bayard Reds are rounding into shape under the tu:elage of Coach Aubrey Russell and a li^' j and rugged teaiai will take the field (31) ««ain«t Coon Rapids in the Hon hospital [Friday night. This year's team has quite a record to maintain in the open- tag game as Coon Rapids hasn't sewed on a Red team since relations were resumed four years ago between the two schools. And, this year should be no exception. The Reds scrimmaged Jefferson in a practice tilt last Friday afternoon and the Uayard hoys* ],. ked fairly good considering the difference in the size c.f the schools. Russell says he was well pleased witl the results shown in this en-counter and many o f . the weaknesses which showed up then have been ironed out this week. Forty-five boys have been working out flhis week and a second and third team schedule has been arranged so that all boys -will get a chance to compete. In fact, all told. Bayard will play 17 football games this falL There are 11 lettermen on the squad but several other boys are showing up well and Russell toll them last week that very few of the "so-called regulars" could feel that they had a-sure berth on the team. Russell has picked a probable starting lineup but he hastens to adid that several other boys are almost on a par with the chxisen 11. Among them are Wayne Brown, Larry Har.vey, B u d McCool, Dtwight Ault, Keith Simmer, Alfred Stone, Joe Davis, Norrls Holt, George*Van Cleave, Bob Boozell and Dee Nay lor. " The field has been watered quite regularly and Should be In good shape for the opener at home against Guthrie Sept. 19. "season tidcets will be sold which will b« good for all first and second team home games. There will be a minimum of eight games P-laved here.
