East High School qiiiet after ruckus injures 9 East High School was back to normal Friday after several instances of "hit and run" attacks that left nine students with minor Injuries and caused 13 to be suspended, according to Principal Frank Anderson. Anderson said the trouble began between 11:30 a.m. and noon Thursday when several cars, loaded with East High Students and some students from other schools, pulled into the parking area and the" occupants began to attack students who were eating lunch In front of the school. Police apprehended four students who were later released to their parents. Several hundred parents heard Anderson explain the incident Thursday night after the school's annual fall open house. "The response of the parents was one of shock," Anderson said, "but they have reacted in a very' positive way and many have offered their support and assistance." After the meeting between parents and faculty, the Classroom Teack er's Association formed a committee of students, teachers, administrators and parent* to (KM with a serious discipline problem within the school, according to Anderson. - Anderson said the violence was the result of quarrels that have been brewing for some time. "I woVild not call this racial vlolinee," Anderson said. "But we do have 40 to 45 per cent of our student body composed of minority groups and this is an inner-city school." Phoenix Police Capt. Ruben Ortega said the incident was typical of the problems many schools experience, especially during vacation periods and at the beginning and end of the school year. Anderson said two minor scuffles Friday were tjuickly broken up and the remainder of the day was without incident. "We had three addition- el school security people on hand today, and the plainclothes police conr- munity relations officers were very helpful,*' Anderson said. 0».!t.Y6utt«lf PROFESSIONAL PEST CONTROL sumy wtiTsnt 4505 W.
