Bulls' five-run seventh downs Prince William By TOM HARRIS Staff writer DURHAM - Mike Mordecai's two-run triple and Josman Robles' two-run homer keyed a five-run Durham seventh inning Saturday night as the Bulls defeated the Prince William Cannons 7-3 at Durham Athletic Park. The Cannons had taken a 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh before the Bull bats erupted in the bottom of the inning against reliever Bruce Prybylinski. Durham hit for the cycle in the inning, collecting a single, a double, a triple and a homer. "A lot of teams, after [the Cannons' Brad] Ausmus hit that two run single, it would have been easy to let yourself get down," Bulls manager Grady Little said. "But we started the bottom of the inning off with a double, then a walk, then Mordecai hit the gap in left, and [Theron] Todd came through with a big hit, then Robles' homer. "It was just a good comeback for us." Edwin Alicea greeted Prybylinski with a bloop double down the left line and moved to third on a wild pitch. After Prybylinski walked D.C. Campbell, Mordecai dropped a soft liner into the gap in left-center, scoring both runners and putting Durham ahead 4-3. One out later, Todd drilled a single up the middle, and Robles followed with his first hit of the season - his homer, into a stiff wind, that barely cleared the fence in left. James Moody relieved Prybylinski and finally got the Cannons out of the inning. Starters Cullen Hartzog for Prince William and David Nied for the Bulls matched zeros over the first three innings, before Durham touched Hartzog for a run in the fourth. "It took us a while to get adjusted," Little said. "Hartzog had some of the best stuff we've seen all season. He was hitting his breaking pitch, and he had good velocity." Hartzog had a hand in his own undoing, issuing two-out walks to Keith Mitchell and Todd, then Brian Champion singled to right for a 1-0 lead. The Bulls made it 2-0 in the fifth on Ken Harring's leadoff double and a one-out double by Campbell. Prince William cut the lead to 2-1 in the sixth, when Dave Silvestri walked, stole second and came all the way around on Sherman Obando's broken-bat groundout to second. Dave Karasinski took over for Nied in the seventh and quickly gave up the lead. Bull second baseman Alicea misplayed J.T. Snow's pop-up down the right-field line and Mauricio Zazueta followed with a single to center. "Karasinski didn't pitch that poorly," Little said. "It'd been a lot different if we hadn't dropped that pop-up. If we'd have caught it, we'd have had two outs and nobody on." Karasinski retired the next batter on a groundout, then was replaced by Chris Czarnik. Ausmus greeted Czarnik with a single to right to score both runners for a 3-2 Cannon lead. But Durham rebounded in the bottom of the inning, keyed by the extra-base hits by Mordecai and Robles. Czarnik, 2-1, went 1⅓ innings to pick up the win, and Skipper Wright held the Cannons hitless in the ninth. Prybylinski, 0-2, was the loser. The Bulls and Cannons close out their four -game series with a rare Durham Athletic Park day game today.
