Mets rout Sox 18-7 UTICA, N Y. - Pittsfield Met starter Steve Thomas lasted just one-third of an inning last night at Murname Field against the Utica Blue Sox. But the rest of the evening went Pittsfield's way, as the visitors ripped 21 hits and rallied from a 4-3 first-inning deficit to score an 18-7 victory. N.Y.-Penn League The Mets swept the short two-game set at Utica and will move on to Welland, Ont., for 7 p.m. games today and Saturday. Pitts-field now owns a five-game win streak that ties the season mark set in early July. The Mets will try to extend that streak to six tonight when they send Juan Castillo to the mound. Pittsfield's scheduled starter tomorrow night is Pete Walker. Big offense Pittsfield catcher Brian Dunn was the hitting star last night recording a perfect five-for-fiye evening that included a double, triple, two RBI, a stolen base and run scored. Nick Davis also fared well against the Utica pitching staff, knocking in seven runs and drilling his fourth home run of the year in the ninth inning. The Mets received a big boost from recently signed pitcher Ken Coffee, who relieved Thomas in the first after Utica had plated four runs to take a 4-3 lead. Coffee earned the first professional victory of his career by working 3 innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out six. "Tom Wilson relieved Coffee in the fifth and worked until the ninth when Mike Sciortino came in to close out the Blue Sox. Pittsfield scored three runs in the first inning against Utica starter John Smith (3-4), but the Blue Sox bounced right back for four runs in the home first, knocking out the Mets' Thomas. The big hits in the inning were Chris Sparrow's two-run double and a run-scoring single by catcher Jeff Ingram. The Mets tied the game 4-4 in the second when Joe Arredondo scored from third base with no outs on Tom Allison's double-play ground ball. Arredondo had led off the inping with a single and moved to third on Dunn's single.
