Brazil and Argentina are now leading in humane legislation respecting maternity. The latter country adopted a maternity insurance law in 1934 and the Brazilian constitution of the same year provides for legislation to protect expectant mothers in industry. The next regular Pan-American conference, scheduled to meet in Lima, Peru, in 1938, will no doubt consider additional measures on behalf of women and children.
