Actress Stopped Performance to Chide Occupants of an Upper Box, MADE THEM LEAVE THEATRE, Rang Down the Curtain to Make Her Protest and Would Not Proceed with the Play. Julia Arthur was more than aueen in "More Than Queen" at the Broadway Theatre last night. She was manager, stage manager and general censor of the behavior of the audience, In the middle of the fourth act the spectators In the theatre were astonished astonished to see the emotional star walk down tlie centre of the stage to the footlights footlights with a degree of excitement that was not called for at the time by the lines in the drama. There was a dead silence all over the house. Some thought it a part of the play, although It seemed a little out of place. Others felt there was something wrong. Then, In a loud voice, tho actress said: "The curtain must come down." There was a flutter of confusion for a few seconds in the 'wlnffs and the curtain curtain did come down, with a run. Miss Arthur Just escaped tho heavy boom as she made her exit from the stage. A buzz of conversation hummed all over the theatre. A few persons sot up to go, but most of the audience remained remained seated awaiting developments. Another hush fell over the house as Miss Arthur again appeared in front of the lowered curtain. She seemed to be laboring under strong excitement. Her bosom heaved, her eyes Hashed and one h-and was pressed tightly over her heart. "When she had somewhat recovered she said: "I dislike very much to make a scene, but these people" — with a reeal move of her hand— "have been disturbing me all nig-ht. The play cannot go on until they leave the theatre." The people Miss Arthur indicated were two well-dressed ladles and two gentlemen gentlemen in Box E, on the upper right hand of the balcony. When tho actress had concluded they sat In their box as though carvefl in etone. rhe buzz of comment again sprung up as some one connected with the house went into the box and held a short colloquy with its occupants. The result was that the -people complained complained off did leave the theatre. After th6 curtain had been down between between five and ten minutes tho llehta were turned the curtain rose and Miss Julia Arthur made her reappearance; reappearance; more queen than ever. . One by one the other players came upon the stage and alter a sort of "where were we at?" confusion the drama went on to its end. with Box 13 empty and the leading leading lady full of satisfaction. a
