Ronald Ashcraft, 13-year-old son of Curtis Ashcraft, is dead. He was shot in the chest with a shotgun by Nells Steketee, manager of a sign painting company, a prominent leader in civic and fraternal circles, after being caught ransacking a neighbor's house. Steketee, 50 years old, said he saw a prowler in the house next door, grabbed the shotgun and took a position outside the house. • He was apparently seen by the boy, who turned but all the lights. The man was surprised a few moments later when someone stood near him with gun poised, telling him not to move. Steketee turned and fired, striking the boy in the chest. An inquest probably will be called today. Steketee is not being held. The upper air over the arctic is warmer than it is over the equator.
