a Coggs-well Ex-Governor THE REBELLION RECORDS. Report of tha Spoelal Commute oa General Groaveaor'a Charges. WA8HTK0T03. Feb. 37. The special honse eemmtttee appointed to investigate Sspre-sentatlve Grosvenor's charge that lmprsper matter (the roll of hoaor of the Anderson Cavalry) had been inserted into the official records of the war of tbe rebelUen, haa presented its report to the honse. Tne findings are that the matter complained of was not official, and its insertion in tbe rebellion records was improper, as it bad no other foundation than its appearance in a newspaper. The war record office was. however, misled by tbe official eaareeter given to the paper by the adjutant general certificate on the packet The committee concludes that Colonel Lazelle. in charge of the war record office, was responsible lor lta publication only as he adopted the official certificate of the adjutant general, and is fairly exonerated from blame. The committee says there is a lond and continued call from all sections, north and aouth alike, for tbe completion of this work. It seems just that those who fought in the war should be allowed to see the official account of their services. Comparatively tew wiU have tbat privilege unless the publication is greatly expedited. . - At the present rate fifteen years will be reaulred to finish the work. Thus far thirty-two separate books of the contemplated aeries have been printed. There remain over fifty not published. Tha material for these is nearly all selsetsa. The delay In publication la caused by the indexing. This indexing is a work of much intricacy, though when completed it la simple and certain in the means it affords of tracing even the minute matter treated in the T TneeBsential thing In expediting this work la aa iaereased force of clerks employed as indexers, and the committee recommends an annual appropriation of $100,000 for tonjr years to enable tne secretary Of war to em-; nlov a Bufficient number of clerks to arrange , for the publication of thirteen volumes annually.
