Whs doss A mile, 880 Duane Nelson caps senior year with 2 state crowns Humboldt's sterling distance runner Duane Nelson capped an outstanding senior track campaign campaign with a dual victory set at Jefferson's state Class A meet Saturday. Nelson's two wins provided Humboldt with 12 of its 13 points- Jerry Davis added the other- as the Wildcats placed 10th. Davis picked up his point with a sixth place toss in the discus. Over a soggy, spongy track Nelson cruised to victory in his specialities-mile and half mile. The Wildcat senior clocked 4:31.8 in the mile and came back to win the open half in 1:59.4. He has recorded better times in both events this season. Track conditions were described described by coach Gary Newell as "lousy." More than one-half inch of rain fell early Saturday morning and water was still standing on the oval when Humboldt Humboldt arrived at the meet. Ankeny won the Class A title.
