Oklahoman Convicted oi Galena Bank Holdup; Witness Accused COLUMBUS, Kas., May 15.— A Cherokee county district cour jury this afternoon found Charles Cotner, alleged Oklahoma bad man guilty in the holdup last Oct. 30 oJ the Galena National bank. The verdict followed an hour's deliberation. deliberation. The trial began yesterday. Perjury charges were filed today against Curtis Hammonds, night marshal at Vian, Okla., as the outgrowth outgrowth of testimony the officer gave as an alibi witness for Cotner. Cotner. On the witness stand, Hammonds Hammonds denied telling other Oklahoma Oklahoma officers lie believed Cotner was one of the Galena bandits. Deputy Sheriffs Robert Ledbetter and C. M. Rusk of • Muskogee, in rebuttal testimony, declared Hammonds Hammonds called them to Vian the night of Oct. 30 to discuss the robbery robbery with them, and that he stated his belief Cotner took part in the robbery. Hammonds is being held in the county jail here. He was to be arraigned late this afternoon. Hammonds, testifying for the defense late yesterday, had said he saw Cotner in Vian the day of the Galena bank robbery. Cotner faces another bank robbery robbery charge .growing out of a Baxter Springs, Kas., looting, also staged last October.
