Wood River A Word from St. Bernard's Saturday of this week- Is the feast of the Assumption, and a Holy day ot obligation. Tho Mosses will be at the same time as on Sunday, 6:00 a, m. and 9:00 a. m. Owing to the above-mentioned Holy 'day, the members of the Altar Society will receive Holy Communion on Saturday and Sunday. Confessions will be heard Friday evening. In order to afford the ladles ample opportunity to attend the early Masses on these days, the Children's choir will sing the High Masses. A three-act comedy-drama will be presented In St. Bernard's hall Wednesday evening, Aug. 26. Commercial Club Meets Yesterday afternoon a meeting of the Commercial Club wah held at the Elite Cafe and the following officers were elected: A. C. Hunt, president. 1 Attorney Manning, Vice-President. Gene Albright, Sec.-Treas. Directors—Val Rels, Ed Watson and R. Behymer. A. J. Parkin of New York City, N. Y., addressed the club In the Interest of Community Center work. Mr. Parkin mot with Col. Btewart and directors of the Standard Oil Company at Chicago, then with officers ot the Standard Oil Company of Wood River and with a committee of citizens of Wood River and officers of the Standard Oil Company In the office of C. B. Manbeok, Supt. Val Rels has been appointed as chairman and Mrs. B. V. Qlehl as Secretary of a, temporary organization to determine ways and means of maintaining a community center In Wood River, taking In the district of Roxana, Hartford, Bast Alton and probably Alton. The committee Is composed of C. B, Manbeck, Dr. Holland, Mayor Tlpton, R. Parks, James Chessen and Mr. and Mrs, William Wolf. Another meeting will be held Friday night in the City Hall.
