Monday evening to extinguish what might have been a disastrous blaze. A gas truck of the County Gas & Electric Co., parked at the rear of the Boetger home on E. Locust, had somehow developed a burning motor. The company extinguished the fire without bad results. The annual George Hilbert, Sr., family gathering was held in the Huckelberry hall at Mark Twain Park June 10. Mrs. J. C. Chilton of Hannibal, is visiting her sister, Mrs. Bina Stuart, at the Leon Force home here. She returned- to Paris with Mrs. Stuart and the Force family who spent the weekend at the Chilton home. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Simpson and little daughter have moved to an apartment in the Alvin Foree home in south Paris. Mr. Simpson will be employed in a Paris barber shop. Mrs. Ben Young, on South Main, has her mother as house guest this week. Although recent small showers have been welcome, this vicinity is in need of a real old- fashioned rain. Farm crops, gardens, lawns, ponds and home cisterns are suffering from lack of rainfall and some fear of a drouth is found among farmers. Mrs. Verdie Clark of Greenville, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Kuntz, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Fowler, Miss Martha Norton, and Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Norton, all of St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Erma Maddox, Billings, Mont., and the Rev. Frank McKinney, Howard, Kans., will arrive iri Paris by June 15, to attend the Hedden reunion, which will begin on the Hedden farm north of town, on the 15th ,to- continue for a week. The event will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the settling of the late Mr. and Mrs. Simon Hedden on the Hedden farm which will be the scene of the gathering of their descendants. A number of the grandsons and granddaughters have already reached Paris for the event and others will come later for only a part of the time. Mrs. P. S. Ballew is attending: the Presbyterian Synod's Training school which is being-held in William Woods college, Fulton, from June 12 to 16. Classes for instruction and teaching in the woman's work in the church are held each morning. T-t. and Mrs. Robert Ballew and daughter, Robyn Lynne, visited Mr. and Mrs. P. S. Ballew Sunday. Lt. Ballew is stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood. Mr. and Mrs. Alva Lucas and children have returned from a three weeks' vacation spent in motoring through west coast states and visiting relatives at various points. Mr. Lucas is manager of the Kroger Super market here. Mrs. Juanita Crawford, \\\\o has been ill at her home here for several days, was taken to Woodland hospital, Moberly, Monday.
