Mrs. Vlolette Etfgen Mrs. Elfgen i i i I of thony's Hospital. She was the! widow of Bert F. Elfgen. Mrs. Elfgen, whose residence!; was at 222 W. Elm St.. had been' a patient in the hospital since Dec. 31. Mrs. Elfgen had been In failing health for three years, and for .more than a year had been Inactive. Mrs. Elfgen WHS a native ol the Northside. and resided there all her life. She was born Nov. 28, 1874, a daughter of the late Abraham and Matilda Kortkamp, residents of thai section of old North Alton known as the j "Coal Branch." She was married to Bert F. Elfgen, April 27, 1899. Mr. Elf- gen, widely known business man, died Jan. 20, 1947. Mw. Elfgen, since childhood. was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Her chief interest was in her home, and she became known for her flower gardens. Her home at 2602 Slate St., now site of the Tri-City Grocery Co. parking lot, was a showpiece because of the variety of flowers grown. She frequently entertained friends in her home, and was known for her gracious hospitality. Mrs. Elfgen was one of five children and was the last of her family. Surviving are her son. Eugene K. Elfgen. two granddaughters, and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a nephew, Roy Kortkamp,' w h o Was reared in the Elfgen nome from the age of 6. The body will be at Gent Chapel, where friends may call after 7 p.m.. today. Funeral services, at the chapel, will be conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday, by the Rev. E. J. Vance, pastor of First Presbyterian Church. Entombment will be in Grandvievv Mausoleum in Alton Cemetery. t
