At the last meeting of the Vance County Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, a committee was appointed to draft resolutions on the death of Mr. Willis F. Rowland, of Henderson. The committee appointed offers the following preamble and resolutions: Whereas, It has pleased Almighty God in His wise dispensation to remove from our midst Mr. Willis F. Rowland, a Christian eentleman and brave Confederate soldier, who enlisted in the service of the Civil War May 1st, 1801, (Company H,12th Regiment) and surrendered with Gen. Robert E. Lee at Appomattox; 1st. Be it resolved, That we, the Daughters of the Confederacy, while expressing deep sor- j row and eympathy, alio wish to express our admiration of his unfaltering courage and leal in the Confederate cause, and bis Chris tian fortitude. 2nd. Be it further resolved, That we tender our sympathy to the bereaved family and relative of the deceased. 3rd. That we spread upon the minutes of the Chapter a copy, (record his deeds in our Chapter history) and that a copy of these resolutions be sent to the family, and to the Gold Leaf for publication.
