Edward Lohmeyer and Isador Selig DeafJtyute Debaters BERKKTET FehniAry 1 Members of the Toung Mens Christian Association Deaf Mutes Branch of San Francisco who win meet the silent orators of the De lEpee Lyceum of the State Institution for the Deaf Dumb and Blind in public debate In the sign language have been chosen They are Edward Lohmeyer W McCarthy and Isadore Sellg The Berkeley mute debaters are determined to win and are now hard at work under the coaching of T dEstrella It ha been arranged to have a series of thre debates the first two of which will be held at the institution on Mareti 13th aad April 10th and the third at the Youns M - ns Christian Association building on May 1st The questions in their order are t Resolved That Magna Charta did more than the Declaration of Independence for the advancement of civil liberty that cooperation in business Is more beneficial f - an competition that a complete mastery of a trade is preferable to a college course from a dea mutes standpoint The De lEpee will debate the affirmative throughout and the Toung Mens Christian Association the negative The forensic contest Is to be carried on in the Bign language each speaker being allowed ten minutes The decision will rest with three Jdgpg to be chosen later A keen rivalry eilsty between the two sts of debaters and their strife for victory on the rostrum next month win be close The De lEpee representatives will be chosen from the following Tony Munch T dEstrella Iasle McDonald Annie Xdndstrom and Pearl Wilson
