"PROVO, UTAH COUNTY, UTAH THURSDAY, JUNE/28,. 1962 Exchange Club Hears Utah Road Planning Workings of the Utah State Road Commission and the future of road construction in Utah County were presented to the Provo Exchange Club Tuesday noon. Speaker was Elias Strong, commission member and vice president of the Utah Auto Dealers Association of Salt Lake City. Mr. Strong pointed out that the present road board is composed of •ive men who have other means of livelihood than the commission job and are, therefore, less susceptible to political pressures than was the case with former boards. He said the primary job of the commission is to "move traffic safely and efficiently" and that line of thinking rules the decisions the boards must make. One of the projects in which he has been most interested is removing the "worst bottleneck in the state — the road between Provo and Springville" and he was happy to report that the contractor will begin work on improving this section this week. Presently there is $7,000,000 in state road construction underway in Utah County, he said and the section of Interstate (freeway) aighway between Provo and American Fork has a high priority for construction completion. The contract for paving this stretch will be let in 1963 and it is hoped, the speaker said, that this section will be completed in 1963 or early 1964. The commissioner explained why so many high fills are made for interstate highways and are then left for long periods of time — apparently forgotten in the rush to build other roads elsewhere. These high fills, he said, must be aUowed to settle and stabilize and they are measured Erom time to time to know-when they have reached final stabilization. Rampton, candidate for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate, that the campaign organization of Rep. David S. King (D- Utah) is seeking to build up a "myth that the congressman is an unbeatable vote getter." Mr. Rampton said that Rep. King had won his elections by small margins in relation to the party votes, and that he had never been engaged in a primary contest. Baha'i Meeting Place Changed The Baha'i Center will be closed to the public , this evening and the scheduled public meeting will be held at 1089 W. 100 North, Provo. Initiating the group discussion will be a talk "The Way to Peace" by Mr. Lorance Jarvis. This 15-minute discourse will be followed by an exchange of ideas among those present in an attempt to better understand the problems and possible solutions regarding permanent world peace. Everyone is welcome at this public meeting at 8:15 p.m., tonight and newcomers are invited to observe and to participate if they so desire.
