Fcrmer Hawarden and Ireton Youth Killed in Crash of Plane in France Sgt. Walter Schuette, 22. of Sioux Ci ty, a form er Ha ward en boy, was among the 36 men killed aboard the United States airforce transport plane which crashed on a mountain slope in France while on a flight from Frankfort, Germany, Germany, to Bordeaux, France. The shattered snow-crusted wreckage was found last Thursday Thursday by rescue crews 5,000 feet up a mountain slope in southern France. Sgt. Scbuette was a son of Walter Schuettc, sr., and Mrs. Roy James, both of Sioux City. He recently had re-enlisted for another four years in the airforce after serving one enlistment. Sgt. Schuette spent the last three Christmas holidays in Germany Germany and was home just before he went overseas in 1948. A member of the family said Sert. Schuette had written that the airforce was creating a large motorpool at Bordeaux. .France, and believed that was the reason he was aboard the riant transport. transport. Sgt. Schuette was born January January 8, 1929, at Ireton. When about three years old he came Hawarden and lived here until was about 11 when they moved Craicr. He also lived in Minnesota. Before his enlistment he was employed by Swift Co. in City. Besides his parents, he is survived survived by a brother, Orville Schuette Schuette of Bell, Calif.; three sisters, Mrs. Kenneth Renken of Le Mrs, Kenneth Kady of Sioux and Lavonne Schuette of Akron.
