LOOKING BACK: The distinction of being the only person in Bradford Bradford whose grandmother was accused accused of witchcraft .-belongs to Robert George. It all happened in 1887 right here in Bradford--at 13 Pearl St., is be exact! Mrs. Ruth Wilcox was ths grandmother and her accuser was her next-door neighbor. The "evidence" submitted by ·neighbor to prove the- witchcraft charges was: (1). That Jftrs. Wilcox had made tea of ground-up cockroaches and fed some to the neighbor; (2) Mrs. Wilcox had been seen by neighbor on various occasions to mount a broomstick and fly off the sky accompanied by her black eat. . ' . . . . . The case was tried at the alderman's office then situated "on corner of Bank and Pearl Sts. Wilcox was declared innocent and a few days later the complaining neighbor Vas committed to North Warren.;. ^ · ..
