Harry Dexter White: Overdose of Digitalis
White promptly appeared before the committee and denied that he had ever been a Communist. At the time, he pleaded that he had a heart ailment. Less than a week later, on Aug. 17, he died at home, reportedly of an overdose of digitalis. His was one of the several deaths and suicides which have accompanied the inquiry into the Hiss-Chambers case.
