At a meeting held in Turner Hall ;he Rip Van Winkles social club reorganized reorganized for the eighth successive season. The following officers were elected: H. H. Unterbrlnk, president; Wm. Thomas, vice-president; George Stevenson, treasurer; Bert Gent, isecretay. Louis Miller, Frank Scull, Harry McDonald, Charles Volz and George Shane were apopinted an entertainment committee whose duty it will be to arrange for the winter's festivities. The members of the Rip Van Winkles were former members, members, of the Alton Male social cluvi and the Alton Jolly Bachelors who succumbed tc Cupid, and their wives. That is why they are called Rip Van Winkles. After deserting single misery they woke up. All of the affairs given in the past by tlie club have been very enjoyable and it Is probable those of the future will be of the same order. The club has a membership of forty-three.
