Notre (1LNS) -- The Whitefish Bulldogs combined a balanced scoring attack with a tight defense Friday night to defeat unpredictable Mission of 'St. Ignatius, 48-36 in a Northwest Conference tilt at Whitefish. The win elevated Coach Rollie Schauble's club into a first place tie with Poison. Each team boasts a 2-0 league record. Whitefish, paced by forward Lauren Buckland who tallied eight points, raced to a comfortable first quarter lead, 18-8. But the hot and cold Missionites, forced to shoot from the outside all night, got hot in the second period to cut the gap to three points at halftime, 23-25. Fred Blackman scored eight points and Louie Incashola hit six to lead the second quarter uprising. In the last half, Whitefish hit the hoop for 20 points while the Havre Mission Bulldogs were un to solve the tight defense scoring only 11 points. Guard Gary Smith paced Whitefish scorers with 12 points on six goals, but Incashola, Mission's speedy guard, copped game honors with 14 points on baskets. Buckland, Whitefish's steadiest rebounder, and guard Jim Baker each tallied 10 points for Whitefish. The loss dropped Mission out of undefeated class in conference ranks, giving them one win and one loss In league play.
