Wilkinson presented the state's case against the widow of the slain man, her 16-year-old daughter, Inez, and Fred Bowers, 30, and Jack Portlock', 25. Portlock testified he and Bowers Bowers had been with the 'McNews since September, when they met at Pauls Valley, and that he Inez were sweethearts. ·McNew was slain near the McNew tent home January 1-1.
