BALKS PLOT TO MAIM HEIRESS. Granddaughter or Millionaire Shaw Keeps Tryst with Robber. A. daring plat 4o secure some of the money of the late millionaire lumberman, George S. Shaw of Cloquet, Minn., from his two granddaughters, Mary Shaw, now attending a boarding school in Davenport, Iowa, and Mrs. G. W. Mullins, wife of a physician at Atlantic, Iowa, has been reported to the police. Miss Shaw and her father recently went to Davenport, Not long ago she received an anonymous letter demanding that she deposit a sum of money at a spot where the writer could get it. If she did not comply it was declared that an attack would be made on Mrs. Mullins, that would deprive her of her eyesight. No attention was paid to the letter and the other day as the Davenport granddaughter was walking near her home she was confronted by a stranger who repeated the threats and demanded that the girl deliver $10,000 to him at a certain point that night. With an escort of policemen the girl kept the tryst, but the man failed to appear.
