There's beauty all around as Herald staff photographer Meb Anderson noted this morning when he took this fruit blossom picture looking toward snow-capped Mt. Tlmpanogos at Orem's 12th South. Provo City and Utah County offices will be closed Friday to comemmorate Arbor Day, state-recognized ever since 1925. Arbor Day was started in Nebraska in 1872 by Julius S. Morton the Secretary of Agriculture for the state. In 1885 was made a legal holiday at Nebraska. Since then one-third of Verl Dixon the states, including Utah, have declared Arbor Day a legal holiday. Orerri has scheduled an Arbor Day ceremony Tuesday at 10 a'.m. to honor the late Dr. Earl M. Christensen, past chairman of the Orem Shade Tree Commission and a prominent citizen. For Utah Legislature Verl G. Dixon, former mayor Provo, Wednesday filed his candidacy for the State House of Representatives seat from the according to Mr. Dixon. Taxes, Inflation High taxes should be avoided The ceremony will be held in the new Sharon Park, located at 500 North and 300 East, Orem. A Burr Oak will be planted in honor of Dr. Christensen. Participating in the program will be students at Sharon Elementary School where Dr. Christensen's son, Drew, is attending. The program will include a flag ceremony, prayer and songs, as well as remarks by Orem Mayor James E. Mangum. The public is invited to attend the program. Provo City likewise honored a past shade tree commission chairman in a ceremony last week. Honored was Joyce Harmon in a planting in the Memorial Park at 800 E. Center.
