SENT TO F0LS0M FOR FORGING A BOOK ORDER An Agent for Charles Scribners Sons Confesses Securing Commission by Fraud LOS ANGELES April 17 R H Baldwin was sent to Folsom for two years by Judge Smith to - day on pleading guilty to the charge of forgery Baldwin who is a cripple in one foot was employed as a book agent for Charles Scribners Sons through their local representative E S Lockwood In the course of his work he presented an order for a set ofbooks valued at 256 having the name of a local hotel man signed to it On the assumption that the order was genuine Lockwood paid Baldwin a commission of 36 Subsequently the order was declared a forgery Baldwin decided to withdraw his plea of not guilty He stated that he would have done so in the first Instance but for the fact that he wanted time to secure the presence of his brother who would testify to his previous good character
