Mt o a Annie Laurie Guy Enjoys Her Birthday At Reception On The celebration of the 99th birthday of Mrs. Annie Laurie on Sunday was filled with much excitement and unex- ected pleasure. She received letters of congratulations congratulations rrom President and ttrs. Nixon, Gov. and Mrs. Arch A. Moore Jr., Sen. Jennings Randolph and Sen. Robert Byrd. She also received cards, elegrams and gifts from many iut-of-state friends. Members of Rural Acres Garden Club hosted an open touse from 1 Until 4 p.m. Sun- lay in honor of Mrs. Guy, vhich was attended by over 150 persons. Born May 25, 1884, in Beckley, she is the daughter f William Thomas Warden and Jetty Cobbler Warden of Mar- insville, whose home was ocated at the present site of Jhe Beckley Shopping Plaza. Mrs. Guy is the grand- laughter of the late Thomas Warden, one of the earliest setters setters of our area, which was Augusta, Va., at that time. Warden Warden was an extremely large and owner, who braved and survived a mighty flood to set- le here. Mrs. Guy was married on her 21st birthday, May 26, 1895 to Benjamin Morrel Guy, who died April 30, 1963. They had five children, three sons, William Warden, and Ben F. Jr., both deceased, and George of Houston, Tex., and two daughters, Mrs. Maud G. Hunt and Mrs. Rachel Williams, both of Beckley, eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Members of Rural Acres Club serving as hostesses for the open house were: Mrs. Andy Cook, Mrs. Robert Mellis, Mrs. Reid Davis, Mrs. Frank McManamay, Mrs. W. J. Falconer, Mrs. Frank Shortt, Mrs. N. A. Comer, Mrs. Ted Stover, Mrs. C. E. Kesler, Mrs. W. R. Yost, Mrs.'Paul Dillon, Mrs. Hubert Henson, Mrs. William Messinger and Mrs. William Woods. Mrs. Jean Radford, a member of the club made the guestbook, and the host club presented Mrs. Guy with an orchid corsage. The serving table was covered covered with a lace cloth over pink and held silver appointments, and an arrangement of white summer flowers made by Mrs. Kesler. Out-of-town guests were: Mrs. Vera Guy, Mrs. Amy Evans and Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Evans of Dunbar; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Vandall and children of Charleston; Mr. and Mrs. Garner Garner Guy, Martha and Marie Guy of Woodbridge, Va.; Christine J e n n i n g MacArthur, Mrs. Frances Reese of Bridgeport, Mrs. Ruby Huffman Huffman of Roanoke, Va., Mr. Mrs. Lawrence Guy and children, Becky, John and of Orlando, Fla.; Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Warden o.f Whitby, Mrs. Lola Bobblett, Piney View, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Warden of Alderson, Thomas E. Lilly and Laura Lilly, New Martinsville, Mrs. Oren Starks Jr. of Battle Creek, Mich., Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Patton of Alderson, Mrs. Virginia Virginia M. Mahood of Clovis, N, M., Mr. and Mrs. Jack and sons, Kim, Eric and Matt of Cool Ridge, Kate Jamison, Clara Grite and Melinda Lawrence of Martinsville, and Vera McKinney, Cincinnati, Ohio.
