Ends Own Life Near Cemetery jj.j jj Hawley Uses Stick to Fire - .22 Caliber Rifle Special to The Republican HAWLEY, Aug. l. Using a crotched stick with which to discharge a .22 - caliber rifle, David Durr, 77, 735 Hud son Street, formerly of Kimbles, Pike County, ended his life this morning by firing a bullet into his chest he sat on the ground in the woods near the Walnut Grove Cemetery. The suicide took place some time between 9:30 o'clock, when Durr was last seen at the home of his son, Thomas, and 10:30 o'clock when his body was dis covered by Mrs. Sam Lowenstein, who lives near the cemetery. Mrs. Lowenstein was entering the wooded section to pick berries when she came upon the man's body. She notified neighbors and In turn Dr, Arno C. Voigt was summoned. The body lay along side of a path, 30 feet from the road which circles the ceme tery in adjoining Palmyra Township. Coroner Oliver Osborne and Privates Arthur V. Jones and Michael Ryan, Honesdale substation, State Police, In vestigated. The former gave a verdict 'or some time and this is believed to have prompted the act. The victim was born In Germany on June 3, 1858, and came to this country with his parents in 1869, set' tling on a farm at Tafton, Pike County. 111 1885 he. was married to Harriet Kimble, Kimbles, Pike County.
