Thursday, January 19, 1967 Mrs Salathiel Shows Slides Of Native Wild Flowers & Plants THE TIMES Planting of three trees in a group at Brookshire Arms will be the Arbor Day contribution of the Friendship Garden Club. The members voted to purchase balled shade trees from the local nursery, Evergreen Gardens, and to have the nursery do the planting. Mrs. Fred Buller and Mrs. J. F. Lang are chairmen. A crepe myrtle will be planted in the J. 0. Thomas Park to replace one that was planted there last year. The nominating committee, Mrs. Fred Buller, Mrs. George Rheman and and Mrs. Marie House presented a slate of officers for the next two years. Thev were elected by acclamation; they are Mrs. Melvin Scott, president, Mrs. Wes Buller, first vice president; Mrs. D. L. Martin, second vice president; Mrs. G. L. Buller, secretary; Mrs. Marie House, treasurer; Mary Ann Ernstes, reporter; Mrs. C. C. Cardiff, historian and Mrs. Dorothy Bennett, parliamentarian. Mrs. Raymond Barker, president, gave a report of coming events for the club members. February 24 they will meet at the Methodist Church parking lot to car pool for a trip to the Zone VII meeting to be held in Houston. Mrs. Melvin Scott is zone counselor. Mrs. C. S. Du.ran of Houston will present a program on creative arrangements, titled "The Wonderful World of Make Believe — Our Own Imagination." Guest speaker, Mrs. R. A. Salathiel showed slides and talked about native wild flowers and plants. She and her husband took the color slides while making tramps in the woods and fields in the Houston area during the past 12 years. Mrs. Salathiel is a vice president of the Houston Federation of Garden Clubs and a national flower judge. The meeting was held in the home of Mrs. Cecil Ledbetter where a covered dish dinner was served at noon. Mrs. Ledbetter prepared baked red fish and a roast to go with the salads, vegeta- i bles, hot rolls, iced tea, coffee and pies. Hostes' ses were Mrs. Chas.
