State College Teacher Held In Road Deaths CAMDEN, S. C. Lewis Roche, teacher at South Carolina State College m Orangeburg, has been ordered held for grand jury ac uon cy a Kersnaw county coroner's jury in connection with the highway deaths of a newly-mar ried couple at Camden on October 20. The jury's verdict, as read by Coroner C. C. Padgett, was: "We find that Evelyn Evans Abbott and James F. Abbott came to their death by a ?960 model Cadillac driven by Lewis Roche." Witnesses at the Inquest, besides State Highway Patrolman J. C McDonald, who investigated, included three farm laborers who were working in a field near the cen of the accident on a curve of U. S. Highway 1, near Cassatt. Testimony was to the effect that Roche was attempting to pass a truck on the curve when he apparently saw that lie could not make it, slammed on the brakes and skidded across into the other lane. The car driven by Abbott crashed into the side of Roche's car, according to testimony by both Patrolman McDonald and the other witnesses. , Roche, not present at the inquest, is a patient in a Columbia hospital recovering from injuries suffered in the crash.
