. We are reminded of this great love for the soldier by the action of a recent Democratic Convention held in Perry county. We copy a portion of the proceedings of that body from the Perry Freeman, which says : ' ' . For Sheriff, there were Mr. Reeder (a one - armed soldier), Lieut. Isaac D. Dunkle (a soldier), and Samuel Noss, of Duncannon, and Mr. Sloop, of Marysville, civilians. Mr. Reeder, seeing no chance to pass through such a Democratic crowd with one arm, prudently retired from the contest before the meeting of the Convention. Lieut. Dunkle "fought it out," but he was set aside to make way for that rich and respectable civilian, Mr. Jeremiah Rinehart. Dunkle ought to have known long ago that his blue coat would enrage a Copperhead Convention as much at red flannel does an old turkey - fobbler. That's what's the matter with Lieut, tankle. He fought the Rebels, and those who call Grant a "brute" and a "butcher" those who carefully read the La Crosse Democrat gave the Lieutenant a heavy "fire in the rear" with none of the good things of the Dem ocratic commissary department. We hope the returned soldier who has really seen service in the late, war will consider these facts carefully. The Republicans have everywhere their prominent soldiers as leaders in the national and State councils, while they have been discarded by the Democrats everywhere. ;
