First Graders to Cook Breakfast on Tuesday NORTH OGDEN—First grade students at A. Parley Bates Elementary School will be preparing their own breakfast Tuesday. The menu will be French toast, milk and orange juice. The activity is the culmination of a unit of study on the four basic food groups. During the unit the students heard a lecture from Mrs. Menno Penner, who manage's the school's cafeteria: Mrs. Penner showed the students a tray of food and how much was wasted. "When you waste food like spinach you aren't getting a balanced meal for that day," said Mrs. Penner. She told them they should plan their meals to include fruit and vegetables, bread or cereal, milk and protein; After learning the basic food groups, the children prepared food chart. This chart was :aken home and used for one week to record ingredients in heir own breakfast and supper meals. On the first grade teaching «am are Mrs. James Kelly, Mrs. Howard John and Mrsi i Jay Roberts.
